Meridians – aren’t they woo-woo?

The meridian system is a term you’ll hear used in EFT to explain acupuncture and acupressure points that have been used in traditional Chinese medicine for over 2500 years.

Until recently, Western medicine considered them something they couldn’t verify, so these energy-based concepts were all lumped into the woo-woo basket.

But not any more!

In 2021 scientists isolated and identified this meridian system

and found it to be an extremely fine matrix of fully networked circulatory vessels for energy flow.  Located throughout our bodies, it’s based in our connective tissue.

They even gave it a new name, the Primovascular System. In our blood’s circulatory system it consists of major, then minor arteries and veins, finally ending at fine capillaries.  Meridians do much the same.

In EFT, the reason we tap on meridian points is that this system is not only fully linked within itself, but it also interrelates to other organs and functions of our body.  This means pressure we apply when we tap can end up even having an effect on areas far away from where we’ve originally tapped. Like, you’ll see us tapping on what is called a “gall bladder meridian” or the “large intestine meridian” when our problem has absolutely nothing to do with our gall bladders or large intestines. Our bodies are that exquisite!

The networked meridians transfer this tapping energy to our sensory organs, emotions, hormones and other electrolyte and mineral levels involved in keeping our bodies balanced.  Even sensations like feeling warmth and coolness can be changed.

As Traditional Chinese Medicine has always seen mind and body as intricately interconnected, they treat both together. Tapping does too. So, as we tap, at the same time we use verbal statements affirming how we feel about certain memories. We’re using techniques similar to what may be used in neurolinguistic programming.

The extensive research on tapping shows that combining mind and body together indicates even more impact on our potential imbalances and energy blocks.  It even works well with most other energy modalities.

So give it a try!

And now YOU have this wonderful woo-woo-free technique in your own wellbeing toolbox!
